Raced for decades, starting in the 1950's (he once hitchhiked all the way from Switzerland to England just to race) and later became two times Swiss Formula 2 champion, winning in 1973 and 1974 in his March BMW. Also raced in Formula 3 for some years, and also raced sportscars, hillclimbs, rallies and touring cars. Retired in the mid 1970's, and still follows the sport. Later ran an industrial business, and also instructed young racing drivers. During his career, Roland also bought a number of cars to race in, including a Tecno, GRD, Martini, Brabham as well as a March 732. He also raced a Jaguar in hillclimbs and rallies and a Lola T284 in sportscars.
