Finally retired in 2002 from driving after a back pain forced him to quit. He now concentrates full time on his Super Formula team and Super GT and has business interests. One of Japan's greatest drivers, Kazuyoshi has won the Japanese Formula 2000 Championship twice, the 1978 Japanese F2 Championship, the Japanese Formula 3000 series three times (the last when he was forty-six), the Japanese Sportscar Championship twice and also won the 1990 Japanese Touring Car series in 1990. Initially though, Hoshino started in motocross. Hoshino also runs a aftermarket parts company.
