Later worked as a team director in the Japanese GT Championship in the early 2000's. Masami has also been a stunt driver for television and films. Lives in Hiroshima and keeps links to the sport in his homeland. Masami largely raced in his homeland but had a few spells abroad including in British Formula 3, winning a race of the Lombard North Central Series at Silverstone in 1972. He also did quite well in Formula 2, coming close to a win at Mugello and doing well at Karlskoga, finishing fourth. Sponsorship - or lack of it - was his barrier to doing better in his single-seater career and he eventually ended it in 1979.
