Died of leukaemia. Was helped by family finance as his mother was the owner of Hotel Tropicana in Las Vegas. Also raced in Formula 5000, Formula Atlantic and Can-Am. Briggs was a regular competitor in his blue Lola T332, which he raced in Can-Am in 1977. His best finish was second at Road America, but he also came third at Laguna Seca. That Lola was the same car that he started competing in 1974, the year he won the San Francisco Region Formula A 5000 championship. His father was a doctor of marine science and natural history, but had his own speed thrills as he was a pilot during World War Two.
