For some while after Formula 1, Danny raced back in America, becoming hugely successful. He won the 1988 ChampCar Championship and the 1985 Indianapolis 500. Injury led to a early retirement and he took up media work as well as selected drives away from single-seaters. Then Danny took charge of the Red Bull program for promising American drivers, helping Scott Speed's career. Briefly returned to racing in 2004, but now works in TV and is also a race steward in F1 on occasion. Sullivan worked in many jobs to get funds to race in his earlier days, including as a taxi driver, janitor, waiter and lumberjack, but now has homes in Europe and the States.
