Son, of the same name, also raced and appeared in the IRL - albeit very briefly - in 2015. Rocky Sr. supported him. He ran the Moran Speedway from 2003, which both Moran's wanted to set up, so that young karters in the Southern Californian region could have an accessible and affordable place to kart, but it was sold in 2006 and Rocky spent more time on being a fully-qualified pilot. Moran's real name is William James Moran. Rocky won the 1993 Daytona 24 Hour race and was also a trained engineer. Rocky raced from 1970 until the mid 1990's and as well as single seaters, he raced in Trans-Am, Can-Am and IMSA. A huge fan of Dan Gurney, Moran raced for him in Indycar and very nearly won his first ever Indycar race. A tall man (for racing drivers) and a very popular one, Moran lived in Coto de Caza, California, where he supported his wife's business but also worked as a driver coach to young racing drivers. He died of cancer in 2024.
