His sons, Wally Jr. and Paul, have both had successful careers. Wally Sr. was Chief Steward of CART for many years. Followed the career of his sons and was Chairman of the Board of IRL Ministries, a religious support group for the drivers and crew of the series. Until 2023, he lived in Colorado, where he organized the Colorado 500 Invitational Charity Dirt and Road motorcycle ride each year, and also ran a ranch, garage and cabins in Colorado. He sold this in 2023, moving back to New Jersey, dying there in 2024. Before starting racing, initially in drag racing before moving onto asphalt modified stock cars, Wally worked in the construction industry.
