For many years, Eldon ran his own business; Rasmussen Racing Products and was a highly regarded fabricator. His work on exhausts was vital to teams in the IRL. Rasmussen's racing background was in supermodified cars and dirt track racing in Alberta and he remained linked to that particular discipline for years as he was on the board of directors of the CAMRA and president of the Edmonton Auto Racing Association for some time. He retired from driving after his last Indianapolis attempt in 1979 and also worked as a car builder and designer.
