Until recently, Don was very much involved with the historic racing world and even travelled back to Australia, where he drove a midget car in an exhibition race, some 30 years after successfully racing there. Real name Charles, he lived in Fresno, California virtually all of his life. A member of the National Midget Auto Racing Hall of Fame, Don served in the US Air Force before becoming a racing driver, but also served as his own mechanic and pit crew. Meacham also raced, very occasionally, in sportscars too at the early part of his career. His racing career started in 1958 at Fresno's Kearney Bowl quarter-mile track, before racing in hardtop and jalopy cars before procuring his first midget drive in 1961. After he retired from racing, he worked on developing orthopedic devices for racing. In more detail, this was sales for hip, knee, shoulder & elbow replacement parts and passive motion devices for knee replacement physical therapy.
