One of the greatest all-round drivers post-war, Unser won in stock cars, supermodified, long-distance road races, hillclimbs, sprint cars and of course, the Indianapolis 500 three times. Also, on top of all this, he attempted land speed records. Until the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, he was still involved in US historic events. He retired from his business and spent a lot of time in his holiday home in Mexico and always enjoyed the chance to pursue his lifelong love of fishing. He also did after-dinner speaking and TV and a lot of charity work as well as acting as a consultant, especially to Goodyear, with his knowledge of tyres.
