Carlo was a prominent and long-serving politician in Argentina, based in his native Santa Fe, who was still serving in the Argentine Senate at his death. Reutemann was still involved with motorsport in his home country though, and was heavily involved in nearly getting Jose Maria Lopez a Formula 1 drive with the ultimately abortive USF1 effort in 2010. Reutemann has always had a passion for tractors from his early days (his father was a cattle rancher) and still rode one on his ranch in Santa Fe at weekends so he enjoyed a bit of quiet time. From 2015 onwards, his health was not good with a liver cancer fight and subsequent digestive problems. Although Carlos came close to returning to Formula 1 with Ligier after his surprise departure in 1982, he eventually spent some time in rallying before stopping for good.
