Owned a long-standing garage business in Zimbabwe, but he was still involved as a consultant and the business remains in his name despite his death in 2021.Initially it sold Alfa-Romeo cars, due to Mike's link with the firm when he raced his Cooper-Alfa Romeo as a racer, but latterly whilst Mike was still there, it sold - and still does - Toyota vehicles. Mike himself lived in Durban, South Africa. 1962 was Mike's best year in the sport - not only did he make his Grand Prix debut, but came 3rd in the Rhodesian Grand Prix, but also won the Rhodesian Championship that year. However Gary Hocking's death at the end-of-season Natal Grand Prix persuaded Mike to retire from the sport relatively soon after his year of success.
