Sadly died of liver cancer in 2016. Ran, for a long time, Tiger Wheels and Tyres in Johannesburg, but the company went under in the mid-2000's and Eddie then largely retired, although he remained a non-executive director of Tiger Automotive, which was formed from the remains of Tiger Wheels. As a driver, Eddie, who very much kept links with the sport through historic meetings, was a successful touring car driver in his homeland who won four national production saloon car titles before taking up single-seaters when twenty-seven years old. After a pretty reasonable five year spell in that discipline, he returned to touring cars in 1976. He started racing late, in 1967, in a Mini Cooper S. He won the South African modified saloon car championship in 1969, 1970, 1977 and 1978. A Formula 5000 championship win in 1972 led to a full-time career. Before that he had been making ends meet by selling typewriters and managing a coffee shop.
