Takes part in trials and builds his own cars to compete in, and now also works as a scrutineer and official, indeed he is the main eligibility scrutineer for the British Trial and Rally Drivers Association. Richard also competes in hillclimbs, often in a Cooper Mk5 F3 car. Also used to be a farmer. Robarts started his career quite relatively late in 1969, but won the 1973 Forward Trust F3 title and shared the Lombank North Central F3 title with Tony Brise, and this prowess led to his Grand Prix debut in 1974. Hampered by a lack of money to continue in F1, Richard carried on racing until 1978.
