Team manager of Shadow and Arrows, as well as being a founder of March. Died in 2024 after a long illness. His son, Paul, was also involved in the sport, racing in the newer, shortlived F2 series in 2010. Rees as a driver was no slouch - he was particularly good in Formula Junior and sportscars - in which he started in 1959 - and competitive in Formula 2, until his retirement at the end of the 1968 season to go into team management. Rees was the son of a motor haulage contractor. Alan had slightly different interests to many of his competitors at the time as he enjoyed classical music, rifle shooting and chess. He started racing in 1959 in a Lotus XI.
