Died after a short illness. Best remembered as a single-seater driver in the 1960's and 1970's in the Tecno car, including taking a win at the Hockenheimring in Formula 3, but he also continued to race frequently in historic racing, often in historic Formula 2 or Formula 3. Unold also appeared in long-distance endurance events and rallies in his homeland, despite being well in his 70's. Away from racing, Hermann ran for decades a garage dealership, called AutoUnold in Ludwigshafen Am Rhein, which is now run by his son.
