Decent driver in his own right, especially in Formula 3, winning the 1975 German Formula 3 title (albeit with just one win), but he'll be best remembered for his Maco cars, which he constructed in Super Vee and F3, from the 1950's onwards with reasonable success. After Maco, he ran a garage still in his place of birth, specialising in Alfa Romeo and Jaguar cars, which is still in his name now and he still has some involvement in the business. Maring got involved in the sport through his friend and fellow racing driver Kurt Kuhnke, taking up the sport in 1963. He continued as a driver, on and off, until 1980.
