Sadly died in 2020 after a period of fraility, although he did manage to celebrate his 90th birthday in early 2020. John was a car dealer and owned a restaurant and had property interests as well. His daughter is an actress on British TV. John kept as many links to the sport as he could despite increased fraility, attending historic events as much as he could before declining health intervened. Campbell-Jones was adept in sportscar racing, in which he raced for the majority of the initial period of his career. Retired from racing in 1966. He started serious racing in 1958 in a Lotus XI, winning the Chichester Cup and took a class win the 1959 Nuburgring 1000km's. John also raced a Cooper in Formula 2 events in 1960 before a few Grand Prix races in 1962. He raced in national F1 races in 1963 before becoming the last person to race a BRP in a competitive car at his last race at Oulton Park.
