Decent hillclimber, sprinter, Interserie and Formula Libre driver, but single-seaters weren't really his forte. Marsland also raced in sportscars between 1976 and 1978, all of them in a Chevron, be it a B31, B36 or B26. Marsland competed in sprints throughout the 1970's. Although Marsland is most identified with a Chevron, he also raced a Reliant Sabre modified sprint car. This was not - as reported - a works rally car but actually a car originally built by the works to compete at Le Mans. When their entry was turned down, they decided to prepare it for hillclimb/sprint use to raise the model’s profile among the sporting fraternity. Marsland's family was connected with one of the old Black Country steel works and Bob himself had some overseas properties and business interests and was still involved in the foundry trade himself. He died of peritonitis and liver disease in 2018.
