Very extrovert driver who raced on a shoestring budget. Later went truck racing, and even won a race - at least for a while before being disqualified for tampering with the truck - at Silverstone in 1985. A very popular man in his local area, a race is still held in his honour in Stazzona. Mantova was, by day, a lorry driver who was actually pretty adept at the sport. He won the 1972 Italian Formula Ford title and also won a German Formula 3 race at Hockenheim in 1975. He then moved into Formula 2 as a privateer before moving into trucks in 1979.
