Longtime Formula 3 driver. Roberto first came to prominence by winning the Formula Italia championship in 1976. He then spent a long time in both Italian and European Formula 3, with his best season being in 1978, when he came third in the Italian Championship. Roberto now is involved in the family business, running a driving school. Roberto also enjoys sailing in his spare time and is a big fan of Pro Vercelli, the local football team in Vercelli, Piedmont, where Roberto lives. Campominosi's father also raced briefly. Roberto had a chance of racing in America, but chose, especially as he had no funds to really progress, to become a test driver for Alfa Romeo, racing for them in Formula 3, with the hope it would lead to Formula 1. Having failed, due to lack of sponsors, to get a drive with Tyrrell and Williams, Campominosi retired in 1983.
