Real name Romano Martini. Died of injuries sustained in a road crash. Touring car and sportscar specialist who started his career as a test driver for a dealership. Was most adept at hillclimbs and road racing, but also did well at Mugello, his favourite circuit. Retired at the end of 1974. Often listed as being from Seato, near Florence. Martini started racing in 1961, initially under his own name before changing it. This may've been because he was the test driver for both a Ferrari and Mercedes dealership and didn't want the other firm to find out he was testing and racing a competitor's car! However it was with Alfa Romeo that he was most identified, racing in rallies, sports and touring cars.
