The elder of the Niccolini brothers, Lorenzo raced in sportscars as well as Formula 3 and Formula 2. Niccolini also raced long distance events, including the Targa Florio in 1975 in an Osella with Gianfranco Trombetti, as well as the Monza 1000Km in the same year. The Niccolini brothers are part of the Italian nobility, a family that can trace its noble origins back to the 13th century and who were trading powerhouses in Firenze for centuries and who still have many historical monuments in their name in Italy. Niccolini, whose full name is Niccolini di Camugliano, quit racing to go into business in 1977 full-time, having gained money from his agricultural business that he started whilst still a teenager. He is now involved in local politics and is one of Firenze's leading businessmen and city elders.
