Mistakenly listed as Franco on some entry lists, Spreafico rose up the Italian racing ranks rapidly, winning the Italian Formula Junior title in 1970, then the 1971 Italian Formula Ford 1600 title. However thereafter he got somewhat stuck in Italian Formula 3, often entering his own GRD or Chevron car, powered by a Toyota engine. Spreafico stopped racing in the late 1970's. Fernando still lives in Barzano.
