Perhaps better known for his second profession, photography, where he has done both racing photography and a range of other photographic studies, which includes a lot of features of his home county. Was also involved in a garage in his home town. As a racer, Barrie competed in a number of varying events as an enthusiastic amateur; this included sportscar and GT racing (mostly), in which he raced as an eighteen year old until the mid 1970's, more often than not, in a Lola T70 or a Chevron B8.
