Had retired from driving sportscars and went on to run his own business. However, he returned to racing briefly in 2002 before hanging up his helmet. Lees was an excellent all-round driver who sadly never had the finances to really move up the ladder. His finest achievement was arguably winning a trio of Formula Ford titles in 1975, which was after a long apprenticeship in the discipline. In 2020, a trophy named after Geoff was established, which is a race by the Historic Sports Car Club for up to 2-litre single-seater racing cars from the 1980s. Geoff moved back to the UK after the sad death of his Japanese wife in 2010 and now, remarried, lives in Northamptonshire. Lees won the 1981 European Formula 2 Championship and the 1983 All-Japan Formula 2 Championship. He still has involvement in a property business and plays a lot of golf, also helping run the course as part of the golf club's committee. Released his autobiography - 'From Mechanic to Formula 1' in 2022.
