Son of Tommy Dickson, who also raced. Norman now lives in Perth and continued the family business of running a garage in Dunblane. However, the business shut down due to legal and money woes in recent years. Norman continues to run a business in Perth despite a few troubled years recently, which included a drink driving charge. Norman competed in a range of series, which included British Formula Atlantic (Indylantic), the Shellsport Series (where he raced a Boxer PR2, which he later campaigned in Formula 2), the Hitachi Trophy, which he won in 1979 in a March 792-Hart and the Aurora Formula 1 series for a couple of years. From the early 1980's onwards, Norman concentrated full-time on the car dealership.
