Raced a Chevron B16 in sportscars before a season of Formula 2 in what turned out to be a very short racing career. His career was influenced by Adrian's uncle, Dick Wilkins, who was a very successful stockbroker for many years, and was also a partner of Rob Walker when Walker started running cars for Stirling Moss in the 1950's. Dick Wilkins ran a company called Wedd Durlacher, which eventually became Barclays de Zoete Wedd, which still remains now as Barclay's main investment bank. Wilkins Jr. worked for Barclays de Zoete Wedd as a stockbroker and partner, but left stockbroking in the early 2000's to run a firm called Rambling Roadsters, which offers tours of the UK countryside in classic cars. Wilkins is still involved with that and lives in Essex.
