Worked for many years as the Auto Shop teacher at Will Rogers High School, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, after a very long racing career at national and lower levels. He also built experimental aircraft and remained linked with the sport and local projects. Cagle was four time Tulsa Fairgrounds Speedway Track Champion in the 1960's, but started racing in midget cars as a teenager in the late 1940's. He initially retired in 1958 after being injured in a crash before taking up stock and supermodified racing. In 2014, he was inducted into the Midget Auto Racing Hall of Fame. Cagle also worked as a plumber and served in the US Navy for some while. For over 30 years, Cagle raced in a variety of disciplines including midgets, jalopies, champ cars, modifieds, super modifieds, and sprint cars.
