Died of cancer. No relation to Ray, even though both came from Belleville! An excellent midget driver, a race in his name is still held in his memory at Belle Clair Speedway. Raced on until as late as 1988 and had a very varied career. Arnie, who was named after 1930 Indianapolis 500 winner, Billy Arnold, was an established and successful dirt track racer in midgets and sprints and won both SLARA and USAC accredited events. He was seventh in both the 1964 and 1966 USAC National Sprint Car Championship. Arnie then became a regular in Champ Cars, competing in over 70 events, with a best finish of third, twice, in 1966.
