Died after a long fight with a diabetes-related illness. Son Jeff became a racer. Honda's test and development driver, he also raced at Le Mans and the Indy 500. Raced on until the 1980's in sportscars. Bucknum was actually a surveyor when he first took up the sport in 1957 but his early progess in sportscars was so good, he soon gave that profession up to race full-time. Aside from Bucknum's work with Honda, which was integral to the team progressing, his most notable achievement is arguably his performances in Trans-Am, taking three wins in 1968 and 1969. After racing, Ronnie returned to surveying, and was still in the role at his death.
