John had a long and successful career, despite his father's criminal activities, which saw a young John go to jail for obstruction. Paul, who was from a Dutch family, worked as a racing driver instructor and tutor. Sadly he lost his long fight against Huntington's Disease in the last days of 2020, having been diagnosed in 2001. The diagnosis led to a racing retirement and he also gave up the team managership of the Kenn Hardley Racing Infiniti Pro-Series team but it did lead to him raising awareness and money to combat the disease. His illness and his jail term disrupted what could've been a stellar career, but as it was John won one IRL race, one CART race and numerous IMSA races, including 2 Daytona 24 Hours (1982 and 1997) and one Sebring victory in 1982.
