Continues to run a custom metals fabrication shop in his home city of Indianapolis, which he has done since 1990. As well as fabrication, Drinan supplies a number of racing products, including exhausts, and develops both anti-roll systems and car wash systems. Drinan raced for some while, mainly in midget cars, but got started in the sport as a mechanic at Newman Haas, and then worked with Mario and Michael Andretti, leaving his university studies in Arizona to work with the 1978 World Champion. Drinan was also for a while Operations Manager and chief mechanic at Hemelgarn Racing and also built racing engines for Klein.
