Now lives in England, in Wigan. Full name is John Aloysius. Superb driver in Formula Libre, who remains linked to the sport via historics. Longtime based in Lancashire, he ran a car dealership there for years. Lawler was a very fast driver who didn't really get the budget or breaks his talent deserved. He raced for a while in British Formula Atlantic and then came third in the 1976 Indylantic series. A few seasons of racing in the Shellsport sportscar series in either a Chevron B29 or a Lola T460 car followed, before he switched to the F1 series, competing in a Surtees TS19 amongst other cars. Many years of British Formula Atlantic continued, with Lawler winning the title in 1982, one year after he finished runner-up in the series. He repeated his title win in 1983, before another abortive attempt to compete in Formula 2 in 1984 led to him stopping his competitive career. Currently has a number of interests in the construction industry.
