Lives in England and Ireland. A talented racer who never had the budget to go on to get the breaks his results deserved. He later helped a host of Irish racers do well, including his son, Michael, and now runs a dealership in Co. Wexford. He was particularly impressive in British Formula Ford 1600 in 1978 and when he followed this up with a win in British Formula 3 the following year, he got his Formula 2 chance. After a brief return to Formula 3 in 1981, Bernard couldn't progress his career due to a lack of money and stopped. He still retains links to the sport and occasionally visits events in Ireland.
