Arie follows his son's career closely, having effectively retired from racing to do so. He had some business interests in real estate and art galleries - and is a big fan of Salvador Dali - but tends to concentrate on motor racing still and has a number of links within the sport - he coaches and commentates amongst other interests. In 2012, he expanded on this by becoming IRL race steward, and part of his role is acting as a coach and mentor to the drivers. Arie now also enjoys historic racing, which tends to be his only race driving experience these days. A two-time Indianapolis 500 champion, Arie is largely based in Phoenix, Arizona nowadays but still has family ties in the Netherlands.
