Now runs a 4x4 garage in Belgium, near the Belgian/Dutch border. Hayje - whose name is actually Johan - started racing in saloon cars before taking up Formula Ford racing. Although he had limited funds, he won the 1973 Dutch FF1600 series and this helped him move up accordingly. After his Formula 2 spell, Hayje raced in the Renault Five Eurocup for a few years, taking a few wins and then in the IMSA Championship for a couple of seaons, before retiring from the sport at the end of the 1984 season.
