Still races in historic events. Raced in the 1981 South African GP, but the race was later deprived of championship and Grand Prix status. Along with her husband, Alan, she owns and is involved in Wilson Track Design which helps design real or computerised race tracks or corners. Wilson was the daughter of former South African motorcycle racer Charles Randall, but Desire decided to choose cars to race, starting her career in 1972 in Formula Vee. She won the 1976 Driver to Europe scholarship which greatly advanced her career. She was probably best at British Formula 1, where she won a race in 1980 at Brands Hatch, although she also won in sportscars. Desire retired from full-time competitive racing in 1986.
