Died in 2022, but right up until 2021, he was keeping links with the sport and even riding motorcycles. He was a regular to historic events local to Cape Town. Worked as an importer for Yahama for many years. Johnstone retired from racing after what he perceived as shoddy treatment from BRM at his home, and only, Grand Prix, especially as he had worked for them all year in Europe as a mechanic. He later worked as a sponsorship consultant in South African racing. Bruce started racing in the late 1950's, after a spell of motorcycle scrambling when he was seventeen in the UK, before progressing to motorcycle racing. Bruce moved back to South Africa in 1958 and started racing cars, initially in saloon and sports cars, before really furthering his career by winning at Pietmaritzburg twice in the South African F1 Championship in 1961.
