After a long while out of a drive after his Formula 1 spell, Gaston appeared in CART, but from 2005, was largely unemployed. However, in 2007, he returned to a more steadier drive, in endurance racing, plus some touring car racing in his homeland. Now more recently in Formula Trucks in Brazil and touring cars in Argentina, the latter of which he continues in 2024. Gaston was named after Gaston Perkins, the racing driver, who won the 1969 Argentine Turismo Carretera title.
