Exciting racer who did really well in the US, after a hugely impressive F3000 career, before bringing his aggressive but hugely watchable style to Formula 1. Montoya never quite, despite winning, achieved the success everyone expected, and he made a surprise switch to NASCAR in 2006, with the Ganassi team, and continued until 2013. In 2014, he moved back to the Indycar Series with Penske, and he remained with the team in that series in 2016, after a successful return. However in 2017, Montoya took up a one-off Indianapolis 500 drive with Penske rather than move teams. Juan has also has been in sportscar racing, and won Daytona in 2007 and 2008 and then again in 2013. In 2015, he won the Indianapolis 500. In 2018, Montoya was a test driver for Penske and the Indycar series but also drove in the US Sportscar Championship full-time. In 2021, whilst Juan is still in sportscar racing (the WEC), he is also spending more time supporting his son in his career. But despite that, he returned to the Indianapolis 500 again in 2022. Also in 2022, Juan Pablo was able to combine racing (IMSA) with helping his son Sebastian, as the two of them competed together at the Sebring 12 Hours. The duo lined up together again in 2023 in the European Le Mans Series, after which Juan-Pablo retired and focused solely on his son's career.
