Son of 1961 F1 World Champion, Phil. Derek raced in both Formula 3000 and endurance racing, but more recently has been involved in historic racing and also worked as a racing instructor and tester. Cut back his racing career to move back to the US to help look after his ailing father, and after Phil's death, he has helped with the family businesses and promoting his dad's legacy as he is now retired from racing. Derek concentrates on his own family now and has been helping work with a number of people on a book of Phil's life, due to come out in 2017, ninety years after Phil's birth.
