Switched to the NASCAR truck series in 2002 and found a niche for himself, becoming a strong competitor in the series. Also appeared in the other NASCAR series (Nextel and Busch) for some years, but then moved into sprint cars and midgets. Up to 2013, he continued in sprint cars, midgets and dirt track racing, as well as NASCAR, until his tragic death in a sprint car crash in Bridgeport Speedway. Leffler was the USAC National Midget Champion in 1997, 1998 and 1999 and also won the USAC Silver Crown title in 1998. This saw him inducted, in 2003, into the National Midget Auto Racing Hall of Fame.
