Until the end of 2016, Esteban was racing in Argentine touring cars and off-road events but had also appeared in the FIA GT series in recent years. Tuero became the Argentine Formula Honda champion in 1994 before moving up to Sud-Am by the year's end. A switch to Italian Formula 2000 and Formula 3 fast-tracked his career immensely to the extent that by the time he was eighteen, he was racing in Formula 3000. After his brief Formula 1 career ended early, he switched immediately to touring cars in his homeland. In December 2016, Tuero announced his immediate retirement from racing after a 30 year career which started in karts as a boy. He now has a senior role at the company his father founded - a pneumatic suspension manufacturing business dedicated specifically to buses.
