Qualified chiropractor, who only retired from that profession in 2007. Probably best remembered, racing wise, for his rallying, with a few wins in the discipline, but he was also adept at touring cars and sportscars. Lapeyre only took up racing in his mid-twenties, but he had real moments of success in circuit racing, which included winning the Group Four class at the 1978 Le Mans 24 Hours and then winning, twice, the French Touring Car title in 1986 and 1991. Lapeyre also finished runner-up three times in the latter series.
