A very popular sportscar legend, Wollek raced in the discipline for over 30 years. Never did win Le Mans but took four Daytona wins, a win at Sebring, the 1983 European Endurance Championship and three German sportscar national titles (1982, 1983 and 1989). Away from the tracks, he ran the family car dealership in Strasbourg. Killed in accident whilst on his bicycle outside the Sebring circuit for the 2001 Sebring 12 Hours. Wollek was a very keen cyclist and would cycle from his home in Strasbourg to Le Mans each year. At the time of his death, he was still a very competitive driver in sportscars. Before he took up racing, Wollek was a ski-ier but he retired from that sport after injury. He took up motor racing in 1967 but initially started in rallying.
