Raced in historic events and worked as both a mechanic and a motorsport team advisor for some while. Now has bases in Portugal and Adelaide, where he is involved in the property development business. Schuppan enjoyed a long and varied career in many countries, winning Le Mans in 1983, the Japanese sportscar championship in the same year but also won Formula Pacific races in Macau, IMSA races in the US and European Formula 5000 races in Britain. Schuppan also later built and then marketed road car versions of the Porsche 962.
