Had a spell as CART's executive vice-president in 1997. However it was a military career which Mike mainly stuck to, as he retired as a colonel after a near-lifetime of flying fighter-planes, including in the Vietnam war. He was Chief of Safety for the 142nd Fighter Interceptor Group for the Air National Guard. Now a consultant for SAIC, who have links to the air force. Fisher still keeps links to the sport, as he visits a few historics from his home in New Mexico. Mike was a capable driver in SCCA events, but it was still a surprise when he made his Grand Prix attempts. Having reached that summit, Fisher retired within a few months to start his aviation career. Fisher was just seventeen when he started his career, initially in a Corvette before racing in a Lotus 18, a Lotus 27 and a Porsche 906.
