Rans a welding and fabricating metals business in Cleveland, Ohio and was working there when he sadly suffered a fatal heart-attack. Jones entered his own Cooper for his Grand Prix attempt, but a misalignment and accidental disconnection of electrical wires caused him problems during qualifying and although practice pace was reasonable, Jones wasn't allowed to start the race. Tom remained interested in the sport until his death, both with current racing and historic racing, especially if his old Cooper is raced. At his death, he still owned his March 74A that he raced in IMSA and SCCA events in the 1970's. Jones also raced in Formula A, Can-Am and North American F5000 during his career. Tom also worked as a recruitment consultant for executives in the 1970's.
