A successful karting graduate with three national titles, and five successive Eastern Canadian kart titles, Zachary had a brief spell in Europe before moving to Indy Lights in 2016. Despite the large jump up from karts to Indy Lights, Zachary won at Road America in his second season. Away from the track, Claman de Melo also runs, with his sister, a shoe business called ZCD Montreal, which is a luxury essential sneaker brand that is able to transition from the race track to the runway and has attracted celebrity wearers such as Hollywood actress Margot Robbie. In 2018, Zachary returned to Indycar, but stepped back down to Indy Lights, successfully, in 2019. Since 2021, Zachary has been driving in kart series in Canada but also also been working in business projects, including hand sanitisers.
